Roundup of T-Shirt Fabrics

Summer is here, so are t-shirts everywhere. When choosing a garment to decorate, our customers are continuously asking “What is the difference between cotton and polyester, and what should I choose?” To tell the truth, have you ever felt confused about these fabrics? Do you clearly know their differences? Here comes good news, today I’m glad to share different materials of t-shirts with you, hopefully being able to help.

Cotton
Utilized more than any other natural fiber in the world, cotton is a convenient, wash and wear fabric used in most t-shirts. Based on its natural composition and manufacturing process, it can control moisture, insulate, and provide hypoallergenic comfort. While used for making soft, breathable tees, it’s incredibly durable when wet–both a pro and con. Fine brushes are used to eliminate short strands and straighten fibers, making the fabric stronger, softer, and smoother. Besides, premium cotton also consists of many kinds, such as Egyptian cotton, Pima cotton, Supima cotton, Ringspun cotton and Mercerized cotton, each providing you various feelings.

Polyester
Even though polyester is not a natural product, it is manufactured by mixing different chemicals together which creates a strong and durable fiber. In the garment industry there is not another cost effective fiber available that can make a garment as durable as polyester can. Polyester is also more resistant to shrinkage than cotton, but it is not breathable.

Modal
Luxuriously soft and silky smooth, modal has quickly established itself as a top-drawer staple due to its smooth, lightweight hand and water-absorbent qualities. The innovative fabric is made from 100% natural beech wood fibers for comfortable, breathable tees. Modal won’t fade and shrink like cotton, but it does have a tendency to pill and stretch over time.

Cotton/Polyester Blends
Cotton or Polyester, which is the best one? There is a way to compromise on this argument. There are many t-shirts available in 50% cotton and 50% polyester. Together they make a strong, durable, breathable garment that can hold its shape and color better over time than just cotton. Many sports teams use 50/50 cotton and polyester blend because of the durability and breathability of the fabric. Based on personal preference and a few facts, you can decide what is best for your needs.

Bamboo
environmentally and eco-friendly, bamboo fabric is highly breathable in hot weather and also keeps you significantly warmer in the cold than traditional fabrics. it cuts out 98% of harmful UV rays, so perfect for holiday/travelling cover-ups. In fact, tests show shirts made from bamboo stay 1-2 degrees cooler than an equivalent cotton shirt.
